Christmas Gift Guide 2016: Beauty Edition

Hi everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, but now that Thanksgiving is officially over and November is coming to a close, its time to start thinking about gift ideas. Last year, I made a Christmas gift guide for her, for him, and for the kids. You can check those out here! This edition however, is for the beauty lover in your life – whether that be your mom, friend, or significant other 🙂 My guide features the hottest gifts in beauty this year. Whatever you choose, I am sure your recipient will love!

  1. The first gift I recommend for a makeup lover is actually something I have been wanting myself! This Laura Mercier highlighter looks absolutely stunning! The shade I really want is Devotion, but there are a variety of shades that should work for every skin tone. The face illuminator retails for $44 and is available at Sephora and the Laura Mercier website.

2) Next up is this Fresh Sugar Lip set! I have their lipstick in Petal and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous color and smells amazing! Pick up this holiday set at Sephora for $50.)

3) The Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay palette is one of the latest additions to Tarte’s eyeshadow collection. This palette features a stunning array of mattes, along with 4 shimmers. This is available at Sephora and Ulta – retails for $54.

4) Red beautyblender!! A cult favorite, the beauty blender sponge, is one of the best tools for applying makeup. I love to use mine for foundation, blush, concealer and so much more! This red color is perfect for the holiday season. Sold at Sephora for $20.

5) Next up on my list of gift picks is customizable! Buy your friend, girlfriend, or practically any makeup lover an empty palette and a gift card that he/she can use to purchase the eyeshadow shades of their choosing. If you want to make it a little more personal, fill half the palette with shades you enjoy, and let the recipient pick the rest. Brands such as MAC, Makeup Forever, Buxom, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and theBalm all offer customizable palette options.

6) Second to last is a face mask! Who doesn’t enjoy a little bit of at home pampering 😉 The GLAMGLOW facemask is on my Christmas list for sure. They actually sell a smaller set of single use masks as well, so now you don’t have to spend $69 on the full pot! Check out the $22 set at Sephora, link above.

7) This last gift idea is something I have heard great things about! The Smashbox Master Class Palette: Lighting Theory just recently went on sale at Sephora, and I thought I would mention it. This palette contains everything: from color correctors, to blushes, to bronzers, to eyeshadows! It retails for $45 (was $65) at Sephora.

I hope you found this holiday gift guide helpful! As I was finishing this post up I also wanted to mention that the Sephora Favorites kits are always great gift guide options as well – especially for someone who may be a bit more picky with their makeup. Those sets range from $25+ typically, and you can find them online or in store at Sephora.

Let me know what gift idea is your favorite! What are you giving your friends this year, and what’s on your holiday wishlist?

Love, Mariel

Beauty Wishlist

Hi everyone!!

It’s been a while since I last posted on here. I’m not going to lie, the main reason is that I was lacking inspiration and interest. Finals also took up my free time. But, hopefully the summer will provide many opportunities for blogging!

Today I just wanted to get back in the swing of things and share what I have been lusting after lately. These products are all items I am dying to get my hands on. If only life wasn’t so expensive!! Pictures and links will be provided for everything I share below. I hope my beauty wishlist will enable your shopping addiction and make your day a little more exciting!

1. Violet Voss Holy Grail Eyeshadow Palette – $42

The Laura Lee palette also looks fabulous, and it is always a good idea to support a fellow blogger! However, the Holy Grail palette just appeals more to me. The Holy Grail palette has stunning colors, but it is limited edition, expensive, and extremely difficult to get ahold of.

2. BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette – $14.50

3. NYX Lip Lingerie Collection – $7

4. Nars Limited Edition Orgasm Blush  – $39

5. Becca x Jaclyn Hill Poured Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector – $38

6. beauty.blusher by beautyblender – $16

What products are on your beauty wishlist? Have you tried any of these items?

Love, Mariel

Kylie So Cute Lip Gloss Review

Hi everyone!

If you haven’t seen my last review of the Kylie Lip Kits, you may want to check that out as well. I loved the liquid lipstick so much, I decided to purchase a lip gloss shortly after. The site was a madhouse and it was almost impossible to get one of these, but fortunately I was able to make it through the checkout process in time. I also shared my tips on how to purchase from KylieCosmetics.com in my last post if you are interested.

The lip gloss I bought is in the shade So Cute! It’s a light brown/neutral color. You can build up the intensity of the gloss as well, so you can layer it over a lipstick or wear it on its on as well. I personally do not like the sticky feeling of lip gloss, but this lip gloss does not have that icky sensation. Once you get through initial application, blot the excess product off with a tissue and you should be all set. As someone who really isn’t a fan of lip gloss, I recommend this one because it feels comfortable on the lips. Sometimes I forget I’m wearing it (its that moisturizing). As you probably know, The defective brush was a concern with the first batch of lip glosses. Kylie Cosmetics replaced all the wands and sent out replacements to all unsatisfied customers, so you should be fine if you purchase a gloss in the future. My lip gloss wand is perfectly fine, and I think it applies the product evenly.

Kylie Lip Glosses retail for $15 on KylieCosmetics.com. The next restock date is unknown at the moment, but keep your eye open for more info. There are only three glosses in the collection so far: Like, Literally, and So Cute; all of them are 0.09 fl oz tubes.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know what Kylie Lip Kit or Gloss is your favorite 🙂 Don’t forget to check out my instagram @marielelena_ for more photos.

Kylie Lip Kit Review

Hi everyone!!

Today I will be reviewing the infamous Kylie Lip Kit in the shade Posie K. I was finally able to get my hands on one of these bad boys, and I paid for this product with my own money. Before I start the review, I just want to share all the information quickly. Kylie Lip Kits retail for $29 and are available exclusively on kyliecosmetics.com. Each lip kit contains a 0.11 fl. oz. matte lipstick and a 0.03 oz. lip liner. At the moment there are 8 Kylie Lip Kits: Candy K, Dolce K, True Brown K, Posie K, 22, Mary Jo K, Koko K, and Kourt K. Three glosses have also been released with the shades: Like, Literally, and So Cute. The next restocking date for Koko K, Candy K, Dolce K, Posie K, Kourt K  and all of the glosses is rumored to be tomorrow, April 11, at 1 pm PST (via @KylieCosmeticsUpdate). I recommend getting on the site at 1 pm PST exactly because the shades WILL sell out within a few minutes. So in preparation for tomorrow, I am going to share my opinion on the beautiful Posie K shade.

To start off, I will say that the shade Posie K caught my eye immediately. I think it is absolutely gorgeous, and the packaging is very sleek and appealing. The color itself is a little dark and more mauve toned than anticipated, but I love it nonetheless. I have no complaints about the Kylie Lip Kit. The price is very reasonable, and the lipstick and liner are extremely long lasting. After scrubbing my lips with a makeup remover wipe, I still found some residue left the next morning. The lipstick also smells delicious! It has a faint smell of cake and strawberries in my opinion, similar to the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks. The lipstick drys quickly, but not too fast – you will have time to apply carefully. Overall, I love the Kylie Lip Kit in Posie K! I just might have to pick up another shade, or a gloss to test out.

Now, the most important part and probably the whole reason you clicked on this post in the first place: swatches!!
